Sugarcane was originally found in 510 BC in India by Emperor Darius of Persia who documented the plant as “the reed which gives honey without bees”. Since then it has traveled across the ocean reaching many different cultures. It was first introduced to the Americas in the 15th century in Brazil, which is where we still get our pure sugarcane from.
